The new car VW Volkswagen Passat is very impressive, with a level of finish not often seen on a car of this class, meaning the top-end models are finally knocking on Audi and BMW's doors. The two litre petrol and diesels both do the job of shifting this large car easily, having plenty of power for easy motorway cruising and lots of torque for pulling out of tight corners. But the real power comes with the 3.2 litre R36 model, this baby accelerates from 0-100km/p in just 5.8 seconds.

When it comes to safety the Passat is top class. Six airbags come as standard on every Passat, as do assisted braking and traction control. Volkswagen has also developed an electronic parking brake, and its fitment here means the Passat is the first mainstream VW to come equipped with one. The system works on all four wheels and doubles as an emergency brake.
