The engine, a variation of the power plant already used in the WRX and Forester XT models is tuned to produce 184 kilowatts or power and 339 newton metres of torque.

The Liberty GT continues with the choice of a six-speed manual or five-speed automatic gearbox. All models of the GT (sedan or wagon) are priced at around $55,990 RRP.

One unique additional feature is the Subaru Intelligent Drive. This is a lot of fun to use, it is a little knob mounted on the centre console. It has three settings which instantly change the Liberty's engine and throttle settings for economical or sporty driving.

In the cabin you have a few luxuries in the way of dual zone climate control air-conditioning with rear seat vents, Momo sports steering wheel in leather trim, leather upholstered gear lever/seats/hand brake, 14 speaker - six stack CD McIntosh sound system and eight-way electric front seats.
