The LS460 is the standard model and is powered by a new 4.6 litre V8, which Lexus says is the most technologically advanced engine it has ever built. It offers 280 kilowatts of power and 493 newton metres of torque. The wheelbase for the LS460 is 2970mm.

Now to the stretched out version, the LS600 has a wheelbase of 3090mm, all of which has gone into the additional rear leg-room. The LS600 is based on the LS460 engine, but capacity has been increased to 5.0 litres which pushes the power out to 290kW and the torque to 520Nm. But that's not all. This LS600 is a petrol-electric hybrid, and when the hybrid system kicks in the power output increases to 327kW and the torque goes up to an estimated 1170Nm.

Both models have eight speed automatic transmissions, even though the transmissions are different. The LS460's is a traditional auto and the LS600 has a continuously variable automatic with an electronically controlled eight-step sequential manual over-ride.

Naturally the new Lexus LS is highly specified. The long list of standard features include laminated side windows, steering wheel heater and heated or cooled seats, satellite navigation, the 19 speaker audio, DVD player, automatic door closure system and four zone climate control with 13 sensors monitoring conditions.
